| Carol Robinson is equally at ease in the classical and experimental realms. She performs regularly in major concert halls and international festivals (such as Musiques en Scène, Donaueschinger Musiktage, Biennale di Venezia, Darmstadt, Musica, Huddersfield, Ars Musica, Engadiner Konzertwochen, Wien Modern, Frankfurt Feste, Steirischer Herbst, RomaEuropa, Hörgänge Wien, Musical Action, Sons d’Hiver, Musica Contemporanea, Meiringer Festwochen, Festival d’Automne, MaerzMuzik, Archipel, Wien Modern, RomaEuropa...) and has premiered numerous compositions, working closely with many composers, notably with Giacinto Scelsi. | |
| Her experience playing other types of clarinets, such as the Lithuanian birbyne or the Egyptian argoul, contributes to her understanding and approach to modern clarinet playing. |
| As part of her varied musical horizons, Carol Robinson plays and records with Wolfgang Puschnig, Sam Rivers and Peter Herbert, improvises with Kasper T. Toeplitz, plays with Mike ladd and Dave Randall, and has founded the duo 'Ventures' with oboist Cathy Milliken. |
| Recently released recordings include classical and improvised music, as well as music by, Luigi Nono, Giacinto Scelsi, Morton Feldman, and Luciano Berio. |
| Often initiating projects that she finds personally significant, Carol Robinson has produced and recorded a CD with music for high winds by Giacinto Scelsi, and a CD of late works with clarinet by Morton Feldman. She also co-produced a CD of Armenian music for the doudouk with Armand Amar. |
| She frequently participates in theatrical productions, and has worked with, among others: Georges Aperghis (Enumérations - Atem, Paris); Grupo Accion Instrumentale (Hystérie - Theater am Turm, Frankfurt and l’Empire de Dadi - Palais de Chaillot, Paris); Joëlle Léandre (Silences - Théâtre de la Bastille, Paris); Lambert Wilson (Les Caprices de Marianne - Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord, Paris); Stanislas Nordey (Un Etrange Voyage - Théâtre de la Ville, Paris). |
| While continuing her activities as a performer, Carol Robinson became involved in creating her own music theater productions, which were subsequently presented in France, Switzerland and Germany. To meet the increasingly precise musical demands of these productions and to further define her personal universe, she devotes more and more of her time to composition. |
| In addition to writing for small ensembles, she has received commissions for larger forms. Her compositions are played in concert, and have been recorded by the Hessischer Rundfunk and Saarlandischer Rundfunk, the National Radio of Lithuania, and by Radio France. |
| Carol Robinson assimilates the creative possibilities offered by live or recorded electronic music into her compositional world, and writes pieces that naturally combine acoustic sounds and electronic treatment. The preoccupation with putting a specific sound into a given space leads her to prepare installations and compose 'environmental' music. |
| Her long association with stage productions predisposes her to write for dance as well. |
